I am a man of many idiosyncrasies. From having to put my trousers on right leg first, to only being able to watch TV or listen to the radio is the volume is on an even number, there is plenty of reason for me to be labeled crazy as a loon and locked away somewhere.
My newest obsession is stats. I am constantly checking my blog for the daily stats, and I am always checking amazon so see my stats there, in the form of my ranking. Most people may check it once a day, but I seem to be drawn to the PC just to check these things as often as possible. It is crazy.
I am not obsessed to the point of my day being ruined if I don’t check, far from it. Maybe it is more of a continuous curiosity rather than an obsession. In any case, it is odd, and I hope that I am not the only one who is like this.
The strangest part is, I do not really mind what the stats tell me, it is more about the checking rather than the results I see. Maybe it is kind of a comfort thing, to be able to check and know that things are still ticking along.
So tell me, are you obsessed with anything? What are your idiosyncrasies and maybe I won’t feel like such a nut job π
lol – when I first started I didn’t even know I had stats! And then I started getting the odd comment and thought ‘wow, someone is reading this afterall!’ That was when I discovered stats. Been kind of addicted ever since so you’re not alone!
I am glad that I am not alone. I have to say you feel a certain level of validation looking at your stats, and knowing that, as you say, somebody is reading it.
We spend half our lives living in imaginary world by ourselves, it’s nice to know we can still relate to real people even if they are online π
I use a stat tracker app. When I changed from Blogger to WP my stats were almost cut in half and I didn’t understand why.Turns out, WordPress doesn’t log every blog hit you get on a post. They said it has something to do with IP address stuff. I didn’t quite understand it all – not being a techie – but someone suggested I use an app.
You have to be careful though because the stat tracker I use gives you a cumulative total for the week, not per post. A friend of mine pointed that out yesterday, which burst my bubble a little.
I guess you could say I’m obsessed with stats too. π
Really, I did not realize that about WordPress. Hmm, what stat tracker is it that you use? I would be interested in giving it a whirl.
I am glad that I am not the only one obsessed with my stats haha.
With the pending launch of my debut, I have a feeling stats are going to become something important in my life! π
Good luck with the Launch.
When I first started WordPress, I used an app called statmouse, but you can’t find it anywhere now. It wasn’t a great program because it tracked weekly hits without breaking anything down by post and day. I recently (as in yesterday) started using http://statcounter.com/. I love it so far.
Well I have signed up to Statcounter, and look forward to seeing what results it returns. Thanks for the tip.
You can sign up for Google Analytics. π Now there’s some stats for you!
Now that is a world of stats for me to explore. Good idea.
Try Google Analytics. π Now there’s some stats for you!
I am obsessed with Honesty and ‘helping others’. Have been exploited several times, lost money, time, peace but can’t leave this habit. Even now, even if any body unknown also calls for the help at the dead of night, 99% chances are that I will go. Very recently, someone’s son got involved in an ‘infighting between two groups. I was called by the father of the boy for help. Though they were unknown to me, with the kind of reference he gave, I couldn’t refuse. I went at 2345 hours in the night. Had been to police station, hospital and back but managed to get his son released by 0330 a.m.
