It is early, and all of the kids are awake so I thought I would keep it simple this morning.
There are so many films out there, and in recent years my rate of movie consumption has dropped dramatically. I had at one point over 2000 DVD’s and blu-rays, but sadly, mounting bills forced me to sell pretty much everything I own, beside a precious few.
I still… ‘obtain’ movies from time to time, just not quick enough. Also, my wife does not like horror movies, and so we do not watch very many of them.
I am always looking for movies to watch however, and have therefore decided to come up with a Top 10 of movies that I want to watch in the coming … I want to say days, maybe weeks, but probably should say months.
- Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
- Paranormal Activity 2 – 4
- Hellraiser 2
- The Woman in Black
- Let the right one in
- Sinister
- Evil Dead 2
- Resident Evil Series
- Underworld Series
- Child’s Play
These movies are in no particular order, nor are they the movies that will ultimately be on the top of my must own on blu-ray in collectors edition pile / list. However, they are all horror movies and all ones that I have yet to see. There is a cornucopia of movies that almost made the list, I could have made a Top 100 with ease, but you have to start somewhere.
I have the Chainsaw movies, Hellraiser II and The Woman in Black, so I will start with those and see where the time takes me.
I have kind of cheated with the inclusion of some series, but I have an interest in seeing them all and the list would have been rather boring otherwise.
What are the top films that you want to see? I mean older films, films that are already out there in circulation. (I know I put Sinister on the list, but it’s only 1 so I can forgive myself.)
Ohhhh I love these types of things!! I’m dying to watch Halloween’s second through recent. I’ve never seen Nightmare on Elm Street. I’d like to see Exorcist 2 and 3, too! I also want to see Frankenstein, original (as well as read the book). Now, I can’t wait to hear what others say!!
I have seen all the Elm Street movies, some of them multiple times. They are great. I also have the Halloween Series and Friday 13th Movies, The list goes on and one haha. Frankenstein is on there too. Not overly bothered by the exorcist 2 and 3, but if I get the chance I will definitely check them out.
Thank you for commenting.
Hope you enjoy. I’ve been sorely disappointed with horror movies of late. In fact, the scariest one I’ve watched in a while was The Woman in Black. The rest bring on a yawn, not a scream.
I agree with you Riley, the concept of Horror has been confused with gratuitous gore and violence. I am a staunch voice behind the less gore more creep factor to horror. The jumps, the scares. no just bloodlust. Insidious was a recent horror film that I watched which creeped me out. Thanks for commenting.
I’ve seen every film on your list except for Sinister and I own every one except for Sinister and Child’s Play although I do own Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky. Good starting list you have here, Alex.
Fun list. Add “The Body Snatcher” with Boris Karloff!
I still have to watch the classic Universal horror films, particularly those starring Bela Lugosi and/or Boris Karloff. So far I’ve only seen Dracula and Bride of Frankenstein! Actually I just re-watched Dracula with Frank Langella, and I don’t remember it being so gory, I was quite impressed! That is definitely my favourite version of the story. Another one I saw recently was The Wicker Man with Christopher Lee, excellent film! But I do enjoy a good slasher movie once in a while (I still get freaked out by Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween and Friday the 13th!)
I came across your blog while looking for Halloween movies, and you have some good ideas in here. I haven’t seen most of these, but they would make a good addition to my DISH coworkers’ and my Halloween movie marathon. The Paranormal Activity series and Child’s Play (the two creepiest looking ones, in my opinion) are available from Blockbuster @Home, which ships quickly enough that I should have them in time for Halloween. In terms of your list, I’d also recommend that you see the Exorcist, if you haven’t already. It’s a classic. Anyway, thanks for the ideas, and good luck seeing your scary movies!
Thanks for commenting Linda. I have seen the Exorcist multiple times, it remains a great movie. This post was purely aimed at movies I have yet to see. 🙂 Hopefully you and your coworked will enjoy some of them this Halloween. Have a good party.
