It is that time of the week again. On top of that, it is the end of the month. This is exciting for me, because it marks the end of the first month of my new way of working.
Has it been a success, or is it to become another screwed up ball of paper launched towards the bin?
This week was a little better than last week, but back pains still troubled me somewhat. A trip to the doctor on Monday confirmed I have a herniated disc in my lower back. This is not great, but what can you do. I plow on through, because that is who I am.
I wrote every day again this week, meaning I wrote 30 out of 31 days this month. The big fat zero is fine, because that was the day after I threw my back and the pain was indescribable.
I didn’t hit huge goals, but I was happy with what I had accomplished, and so took my time. There was no need to force anything. Also, one of my long term freelance writing projects went into a break, as I was written up to the end of March already.
All in all I am really happy with this week. I only worked on one novel, my new vampire story. I am still trying to figure it out, but once I have it, I will share the details with you. It is going to be dark, and harsh, as always.
Let’s take a look at the numbers for the Month.
With the moth ending, I want to quick refresh on what my goals were. Back at the start of January, I laid down a target for the year of 50,000 words per month. I knew it would be a tall order, but I was up for it. As it stands, at the point of writing this article, my final figure for the month was 64,104 words.
I cannot quite believe I wrote that much, and it never felt like a struggle. There were a couple of days last week when the words didn’t flow, but it was never a struggle to sit down and write. This was the most pleasing to me, given how my final quarter of 2014 went.
My total works out to an average of 2068 words per day at a rate of 1002 words an hour.
I am really happy with that and am starting to think that I really can keep this tempo going. I mean, I am aware that I am writing two novels at the moment, and that these will need to be edited at some point in the year, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it, and will probably look to supplement my word court and my desire to write by working on some short stories during that time.
What is the plan for the week ahead?
With regards to my back, I have had two chiropractor appointments in the last 3 days and am going again on Monday. I did a little too much today, lifting and moving things, taking them to the dump. My own fault and I am paying for it this evening. I have a neurologist appointment on Wednesday and hopefully an MRI too.
Monday is James’s 8th birthday, so we will be celebrating and doing all the cool birthday things. It’s going to be a good day. He will love the presents we got him, and I can’t wait to play a couple of the board games with him.
Writing wise, I want to continue with my two novels. I think the vampire one will still be the dominant force, my dark romance needs to be taken slower. I have more planning and a little more research to do for this one.
I also have a new erotic short that I am planning to write, so maybe, I will try to make some inroads in that one this week also. If I find myself in the need of a nice change of direction, and pace.
All in all, I am really positive about the position I am in, and feel ready to push things to the next level. For me, that is going to be promoting myself more. Looking for new places to showcase myself and my writing. February is going to be a good month. I can feel it.
How about all of you? How did you do this month with your writing goals?
Thanks for reading.
